I never really understood research until I was taught by the top Acupuncture Researcher in the world.
Richard Hammerschlag, PhD invited me into a cohort to learn about research appreciation for integrative medicine providers.
For a year, we learned that research was so far beyond double blind studies, and it was used for funding, for business, for making changes.
Through my individual project it was realized that the School at which I taught had a mission ….to teach highly skilled and compassionate practitioners…. Now, the school had all kinds of assessment tests to ensure the graduates where skilled, but nothing showing they were compassionate. So, after reflecting, surveying, and yes, researching, I found that there was indeed a survey that measured compassion for healthcare providers.
To my surprise the institution implemented the survey to truly measure it’s own mission.
What this experience taught me was that research can be fun, interesting, and super helpful when trying to build a business.
I was reminded of this when I remembered the crucial research skill of critical thinking.
I was able to get off the grid and review the strategies that have been working in my business this past year.
These included:
Public talks to my specific audience of health and wellness providers.
Promotion of One Page Marketing Plans
Creating New Strategic Alliances
Monday Mindfulness
Perhaps you don’t need a full on research project to do a little reflecting in your business. Schedule an off the grid day where you can review the past quarter, or year in your business and write down what has been the most successful strategy, or strategies, in your business and find ways to engage in them more often.
